John Owen is a lifetime journalist and journalist educator. He recently returned to the U.S. after living and working in Canada and then the UK. He began his career in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, worked in public broadcasting in Rochester, NY. He spent 20 years with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation in Toronto and London. He held every senior CBC -TV News position including Chief News Editor. He created the European Centre in London for the Freedom Forum. He then helped create & produce NewsXchange. He was Professor of international Journalism at City University’s postgraduate school of journalism for 14 years. He has also taught summer courses in London for Indiana University & New York University. He served as Executive Producer for Programmes for Al Jazeera English 2010-2011. He was Chairman of the Frontline Club Trust until 2018. “He is co-author of “ International News Reporting:Frontlines & Deadlines.” He currently lives in Bend, Oregon.
